Periodontic FAQs
What is periodontics?
Periodontics is a specialised branch of dentistry that focuses on the health of your gums and the bone that supports your teeth. It addresses the foundations of your smile, restores receding gums, strengthens loose teeth, increases gum tissue and can help with sensitivity and the appearance of your smile.
How can periodontal treatments help with loose teeth?
Whether periodontal treatments can help with loose teeth will depend on your personal situation. However, periodontics can help to remove any infection that might be destroying the tooth’s support system, helping to reduce swelling and allow the affected tissue a better chance of healing and tightening.
What is periodontitis and how do you treat it?
Periodontitis is a chronic infection of the gums that damages the soft tissue and can destroy the bone that supports your teeth. This is a severe form of gum disease which has moved past a point of simple gum inflammation. When left untreated, periodontitis can cause tooth loss and deep pockets around teeth that trap bacteria. If you think you may have periodontitis, please discuss this with your regular dentist or book an appointment with our treatment coordinator.
