More about Invisalign Dental Braces

Why Invisalign is so popular with our Derby dental patients.

Although some cases of uneven teeth may require the use of different types of dental braces; in the many cases, where appropriate, Invisalign is the preferred method at Darren Bywater Dental Care.

Whilst most other modern adult orthodontics offer a level of discretion by using teeth coloured wires and brackets, Invisalign uses a completely different method altogether.

Instead of being attached to the teeth using wiring and brackets, “Invisalign” is a series of transparent ‘trays’ that sit over the patient’s teeth and a series of these are used to gradually reposition the teeth to their correct places.

Advantages

Visibility – Because of the use of a medical grade transparent plastic, Invisalign orthodontics are difficult to detect by others in everyday life. Without the embarrassment of revealing unappealing braces when the patient smiles, the use of Invisalign is considered to be a real benefit for those undergoing teeth straightening.

Comfort – Whilst Invisalign may feel a little strange when first fitted, most patients of Darren Bywater Dental Care in Derby soon become used to them and find them quite comfortable to wear and with a low level of chafing.

Convenience – One of the biggest disadvantages of traditional braces is the difficulty that some people find in eating whilst wearing them. This difficulty may mean that certain foods are avoided as they can become trapped in the wires – quite inconvenient.

Invisalign braces avoid this problem by simply being removed during eating. This means no more selective eating or feeling like you wish to avoid social functions for fear of embarrassment.

Hygiene – As mentioned above, dental braces which use a wiring system may cause food to become trapped. This can be difficult to remove and has been known to lead to decay or gum disease in extreme cases. Because Invisalign are not worn when eating, this problem does not occur.

By cleaning your teeth before returning Invisalign to your mouth, providing that a general good oral health regimen of cleaning and flossing is carried out, there should be no additional problems regarding oral hygiene.

Disadvantages

It should be said that Invisalign are not a fast acting brace. Most braces that are designed to be fast acting either put more pressure on the teeth, which can cause some discomfort, or are designed to work on the front teeth alone.

It should be said though, that most patients of our Derby dental practice have said that the discreetness, comfort and convenience of Invisalign more than compensates for the slightly longer time that they need to be worn.

Overall, these patient friendly dental braces are popular for good reason. Having your teeth straightened without the inconvenience and potential embarrassment of traditional braces is a great way to obtain an even smile.
